Embracing Junior High with Spirit and Determination

Jules Allaway shares her journey of hard work, friendship, and community.

“There are always things to look forward to in our town.”

As Jules Allaway steps into her role as a rising seventh grader at Momence Junior High, she carries with her the same enthusiasm and determination that has defined her journey thus far. From excelling in academics to shining in sports, Jules embodies the spirit of a dedicated and vibrant student who is eager to make the most of her junior high years.

“Being in sixth grade is kind of scary,” Jules admits. “You have to do well so you don’t fall behind for seventh grade.” It’s clear that Jules understands the importance of setting a strong foundation for her future. With her siblings excelling in college, Jules feels inspired to follow in their footsteps. Her sister is studying to become a lawyer at Indiana Tech University in Fort Wayne, while her brother is thriving at Quincy University in Illinois.

Jules’s commitment to her education is matched by her love for sports. “I play cheerleading, softball, and volleyball,” she says with a bright smile. “I’ve played softball since I was six, but my sister plays volleyball in college, so I kind of want to do that too.” It’s evident that family influences play a significant role in Jules’s life, guiding her aspirations and goals.

Balancing academics and athletics is no small feat, but Jules approaches it with remarkable discipline and enthusiasm. “I like moving a lot and staying in shape,” she explains. “I don’t really like sitting down all day doing nothing, so I think it’s really fun to get physical activity in.” Her passion for staying active is evident as she talks about her involvement in various sports throughout the year.

Jules’s dedication to her studies and sports is complemented by her strong sense of community and friendship. “I’ve had most of my friends since pre-K and kindergarten,” she shares. “We’ve kind of stuck together and made new friends along the way.” As the “mom” of her friend group, Jules takes on a leadership role, ensuring her friends make good decisions and stay out of trouble. “I don’t let them do stupid things,” she says with a chuckle.

Growing up in Momence, Jules has developed a deep appreciation for her hometown. “We have things like Gladfest, a carnival, and a parade,” she says. “There are always things to look forward to in our town.” Her involvement in these community events, especially participating in the Gladfest parade with her cheer team, highlights her strong connection to the local culture.

Jules’s admiration for her family is palpable as she talks about the people who inspire her the most. “I really admire my grandma, my nana, and my mom and dad,” she says. “They teach me so much and are always there for me.” Her nana’s unwavering support and her parents’ balance of strictness and love have shaped Jules into the hardworking and thoughtful individual she is today.

As Jules transitions into seventh grade, she reflects on her journey with a blend of excitement and apprehension. “It’s kind of a lot with doing sports and keeping up with good grades,” she acknowledges. However, her dedication to her studies and extracurricular activities has prepared her well for the challenges ahead.

If given the chance to offer advice to her younger self, Jules would emphasize the importance of being true to oneself. “Be a leader, not a follower,” she advises. “Try to do you and don’t follow other people around.” This wisdom, coupled with her hard work and determination, is sure to guide Jules as she navigates the rest of her junior high years and beyond.

Jules’s vision for the future includes a deep commitment to her family. When asked how she would use a magic wand, she says, “I’d probably keep my family healthy and happy at all times.” This heartfelt response underscores her values and the strong bond she shares with her loved ones.

In the end, it’s clear that Jules Allaway is more than just a student at Momence Junior High. She’s a dedicated athlete, a supportive friend, and a cherished member of her community. As she continues to grow and thrive, there’s no doubt that Jules will leave a lasting impact on those around her, inspiring them with her spirit and determination.

In Jules Allaway, Momence Junior High has a shining example of what it means to be a dedicated and vibrant student. Her journey is a testament to the power of hard work, friendship, and community, and it’s a story that will undoubtedly inspire many others to follow in her footsteps.
