Brogan Halpin
Embracing the Journey and Building a Legacy.
From sports fields to classrooms, this rising senior exemplifies hard work, faith, and community spirit at Momence High School.
“Just keep being yourself and work hard. Good things will come.”
Brogan Halpin’s story is one of dedication, growth, and unwavering faith. As a junior at Momence High School, Brogan has navigated what many consider the toughest year of high school with remarkable grace and determination. “Junior year is definitely challenging,” he admits, reflecting on his academic journey. Yet, it’s a challenge he meets head-on, armed with a strong work ethic and a supportive community.
Brogan’s love for sports is evident. Football is his passion, a sport he’s been playing since he was just four years old. “I play wide receiver,” he says with a smile, eyes lighting up at the mention of the new turf field at his school. The anticipation for the upcoming season is palpable. “I love it. I can’t wait to play on it.”
But it’s not just football that keeps Brogan busy. He also excels in baseball, primarily playing shortstop. His athletic prowess extends beyond these two sports, as he dabbled in basketball during his earlier years. “Football and baseball are my main sports now,” he clarifies. The possibility of continuing with sports in college is a dream he holds dear, even as he contemplates the balance between athletics and academics.
Academically, Brogan leans towards business, bolstered by his aptitude in math. Currently tackling AP Precalculus, he’s preparing for his first AP exams with the same diligence he brings to the field. “AP Precalculus is challenging, but I’m ready for the test,” he says, his confidence underscored by the countless hours of preparation.
Brogan’s journey is also deeply rooted in faith. “God has my path for me,” he shares, a statement reflecting a mature perspective on life’s uncertainties. This faith, coupled with the support of his community, has been a guiding force throughout his high school years. Growing up in Momence has shaped him in countless ways. “It’s a small town, but it’s a great community,” he says, describing the close-knit environment that has been instrumental in his development.
The influence of supportive coaches and teachers, like Coach Jared and Mr. Richards, has been significant. “We have great people around us,” Brogan notes, emphasizing the positive impact of the community’s mentorship. This support system has not only helped him excel in sports and academics but also instilled in him values of hard work and perseverance.
Reflecting on his journey, Brogan offers advice to his younger self: “Just keep being yourself and work hard. Good things will come.” It’s a philosophy he lives by, understanding that there is no substitute for hard work. His coaches’ mantra, “Hard work beats talent,” resonates deeply with him, serving as a constant reminder of the rewards of perseverance.
Looking ahead, Brogan envisions a future where he continues to make a positive impact, whether through sports or other endeavors. “I’m excited about what’s next,” he says, though the path is still unfolding. The memories he’s creating now— like the spirited class games during homecoming—are ones he’ll cherish. “Just watching them and cheering each other on, those are the moments I’ll remember.”
As Brogan Halpin stands on the cusp of his senior year, he embodies the spirit of Momence High School: dedicated, resilient, and full of promise. His journey is a testament to the power of community, faith, and hard work, leaving a legacy that will inspire future generations.
